Joe Murphy

Joe hails from Didsbury Alberta where he played his minor hockey until the age 15 years. He is proud to have played

his Junior hockey in the AJHL, close to home for the Olds Grizzlys, where he was a 2 time AJHL All Star. He was member of the Centennial Cup (RBC Cup) winning Olds Grizzly team in 1994. The next season Joe was awarded a NCAA scholarship to the University of Denver where he played for the Pioneers for 4 seasons. In his final season the DU pioneers were WCHA champions. After university Joe played 7 seasons of professional hockey. He has played over 200 AHL games in the Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators organizations. After his time in North America, he played the next 3 years in Finland, Germany, and Japan.

Joe found his way back to hockey as a coach at the Bantam AA level in Calgary, where his team won the Bantam ’AA’ provincial title. Most recently Joe is the Associate Coach/GM with the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL. He continues to work with athletes of all age groups, from Novice to current NHL players, as a position skill coach, and a coaching consultant.

Joe currently lives in Calgary with his wife Maggie, and their daughter Leah.
